Flaunt your red Friday!
Join www.southernlady-nancy.blogspot.com for her Flaunt your red Friday party! Here's a few of my favorite "Red" from my house. I love using red as an accent in my home! Don't look to close, there's probably dust bunnies hidden in each picture, Ha!
My favorite place to play with is this one of the two niches I have.

A book of poems from my Mother-in-Law, and some red rose tealights.
Curtains that I added beaded ribbon to the bottom of.
My dining room table made of cherry wood with a reddish tone and my red hydrangea. (yep, fake flowers... love em... hate em... love em....)

And my favorite useful item- my paper box I made!

Pocket Memo Board

This pocket board was made a while ago but I thought it was an easy project. One I found inspiring. I took left over styrofoam, covered it with batting and took my extra fabric starting at the top. I took the top of the fabric and staple gunned it to the board. Then folded a pocket up with the fabric, I continued all the way down. I pinned the pockets so that I knew how many pockets I could get before the end and bottom of the fabric. Also, some pockets are deeper than others. Then I turned it over and pulled it taut and continued stapling it as I went down.
I've made a different one with particle board, and another I made with an old canvas. I can't stick pins or tacks in the canvas one but the pockets work good enough for me.

Slight Addiction to Mags

Oh how I need help with my magazine addiction. I can't help it! I love books and I loooove magazines! I worked for a bookstore for 8 years, therefore, loooooooots of books, loooooots of old mags. I have given up a lot, but still have - a lot. Anway, with that said, I found this great page I saved from an old Martha Stewart Living mag.

I Embellished my photo box a bit more. Pics to come later..... more inspirations below:

From: Martha Stewart Living.com
Sometimes bookmarks fall out and you're left thumbing through page after page, trying to remember where you left off. Or you have to look up that often-used recipe in your favorite cookbook because its ribbon markers already hold the places of other tried-and-true dishes. Avoid these annoyances with placeholders that fit onto the corner of any page.
To make one, cut a bottom corner from an ungusseted paper bag (the kind card shops use) or a colorful envelope. Ours is about 2 inches long from corner to cut. Create several to track your best-loved recipes or when planning the menu for a special dinner.

Linen TrimCreate tone-on-tone sophistication by trimming silk-organza sheers with linen in a slightly deeper shade. Green linen panels on silk-organza sheers give just the right touch of color to a living room dressed in neutral hues. You'll need sheers that measure the height of your windows, plus an extra 14 inches or more for the flounce; a band of linen at the bottom will extend your curtains to the floor.

1. Start by adding the top linen trim: Cut a strip of linen equal to the width of the curtain plus 1 inch and double the height of the top hemmed channel plus 1 inch. Fold in all edges 1/2 inch; iron. Fold in half lengthwise; iron. Sandwich the strip over the curtain's channel; pin in place, and stitch.

Kreative Paper Craft Inspirations

I'm obsessed with paper crafting this month! Last month I was a embroidering fool and now I'm loving all the paper crafting ideas. I really love decorating with paper crafts. Wall art, Decor objects for around the house, items to use, so much! I went to Archivers today to get a fix, and they were having a great sale going on! And if you spend 25$ you get 5$ to spend next week. So dirty and evil but yet, they got me, of course I have to go back and use it! Right?! Oh yeah!!!!

I'm putting some inspiring pics on here so I have them to remind me of what I want to do. Hope you find something to inspire you also!

Kitchen Candy

I got great responses over the menu week that I wanted to give you some more ideas.
http://www.menus4moms.com/ has great personal use menu planners for two weeks at a time. Menu's for frugal moms, busy moms. A printable page that includes one column for your grocery list, middle column for your Daily menu and a third column for notes. You can subscribe to have plans sent to your email also.
I love taste of homes simple and delicious magazine, they have great "shop once...eat all week" menus with a grocery list and pictures for every recipe.
I also love Southern Living. I know a lot of people have said they have recipes with ingredients that no one has in their home. But I have made quite a few recipes and have left out the fancy dancy herbs and such and it still comes out very tasty. I recommend their book "Easy Weeknight Favorites".

Ok, forgive me, I'm hungry! And I couldn't help myself. Do you ever do that, look up recipes when your hungry? Stuff that normally wouldn't sound good suddenly sounds delicious? I do that alllll the time. And then I pull something out of the freezer and pop it in the microwave. Is that bad?

As I look at these gourmet kitchens.... Had to share these beauties.....ahhhh day-dreamin'.

I like to call Kitchen (eye) Candy! I crack myself up.

DIY dry erase board

Upcycle that CD case to a Dry Erase board!
Fun Project!
You know me, I like projects that are short and usuable!
This is perrrrrrrrfect!
Short and Sweet!
1. Using a plastic CD case I took the front clear cover off and switched it around. It will stay open and lean back for you if you do this.
2. I picked out paper to match my bedroom. (I do my best thinking before bed so I thought a dry erase board there would be best)
I added a heart brad to the paper and attatched the paper to the back side with permanent adhesive runner. Adhesive runner sticks to the plastic so you can't remove the paper and restick as the paper may tear. I'm sure you could use glue dots also. I also recommend using a light colored or lightly patterned paper, so you can see your notes....I added the brown rick-rack on the outside to give it 3-D texture. I of course, added ribbon and a binder clip to Embellish! Embellish! Embellish!!!!

And as you see..... it erases!

Please leave me a comment, and/or a picture of your "Upcycled- CD case Dry Erase board"

Valentine Crafty!

Here's a little re-post for those wanting a quick teacher valentine craft...
Valentine Crafty!

My Tutorial for a Valentine Crafty!
(I'm a procrastinator, in my defense, I just found this idea)
Find a pop top can...

Using a can opener, open the BOTTOM of the can. (Be careful, when it comes out it may be sharp!) Clean out the inside being careful not to pop the top open from the inside. Remove the label.

Pick your paper, measure and use double adhesive to adhere it to the can. I started at the seam and wrapped around.

I then added the candy. I also added tissue to the can so that my glue wouldn't touch the candy once sealed.

I used a hot glue gun to seal the bottom. I added a small dab to the lid. After touching the can it adheres immediately. So work quick and adhere where it came off originally. I then continued to glue around the bottom. Because it dries so quick I got to Embellish! Embellish! Embellish! Right away! Yippee! (I love details, can ya tell?)

And you know me, I'm impatient so this Crafty was a true quicky! You can use this idea for any occasion. Birthdays, Jelly Beans for Easter, Buttons for the sewing person in your life, pistachios for the nut in your life, I could go on.....

Now go empty those cans and make those kids eat that fruit! Ha!

A paper craft request Ok- ignore the lazy cat in the background! ha!
I painted these flowers and such on this
metal "S" years ago.
I love it but want a new look -temporarily.

Below is a step by step tutorial
if you want to make a similar one
I used chipboard that comes from the back of some paper packs.
Sometimes, when you buy paper from Archivers they put
your paper between these sheets of chipboard.

To get the large monogram you can enlarge your letter on word processor.
Then adhere it to the chipboard.
Trace it.

Cut it!

Cut out letter from your choice of paper.

Glue patterned paper on chipboard

I then sanded the edges using sand paper. You
can use a sandblock or even a sand nailfile.
I used removable Glue Dots so when I'm sick
of this look I can remove it off of the metal letter.

Embellish! Embellish! Embellish! Few other ideas:
If you don't have a shape (metal or paper mache) to put the paper on
but you have the chipboard -do the same steps but mount
it on matboard, foam board, poster board and frame it. Put multiple letters on painted wooden blocks.
Here are some similar ideas:

Love the clear acrylic heart in the center!

You could frame this also.

Use wooden blocks, paper mache, small cheap dollar store
gift boxes and paint them white (some do come white)
